Bach Flower Chicory, or Cichorium intybus, is often used to address feelings of possessiveness, selfishness, and the need for attention. Horses who may benefit from Chicory remedy always want to be the centre of attention. They may be selfish, obtrusive and demanding of attention. They have a tendency to exaggerate when ill and mares are over attentive of their foals. These horses may appear "offended" if their usual "care giver" is away for a period of time. They generally don't like to be alone. Chicory remedy is recommended for detoxification and liver problems (along side veterinary treatment). It helps horses to become more emotionally balanced and less dominant.

Here's how Chicory might be applied for both horse and rider:

For Horses:

  1. Attention-Seeking Behaviour: Some horses may exhibit attention-seeking behaviour, such as nudging, pawing, or vocalizing excessively, to demand attention from their handlers or pasture mates. Chicory can help to address this neediness and promote more balanced interactions.

  2. Separation Anxiety: Horses that become anxious or distressed when separated from their human companions or herd mates may benefit from Chicory to reduce their reliance on constant attention and reassurance.

  3. Aggression Towards Other Horses: In herd settings, horses with a strong need for attention may exhibit aggressive behaviours towards other horses to assert their dominance or monopolize resources. Chicory can help to mitigate these tendencies and promote more harmonious social interactions.

For Riders:

1. Overbearing Attachment: Riders who exhibit possessive tendencies towards their horse, such as micromanaging their care or becoming overly protective, may benefit from Chicory to cultivate a healthier level of attachment and allow their horse more independence.

  1. Neediness in Relationships: Riders who seek excessive validation or attention from their horse or others in the equestrian community may benefit from Chicory to address underlying insecurities and foster more self-reliance.

  2. Manipulative Behaviour: In some cases, riders may engage in manipulative behaviours to control their horse or influence others, stemming from a need for attention or validation. Chicory can help to address these tendencies and promote more authentic and respectful interactions.
